Music by Phillip R. Dietterich (b. 1931)

Dietterich was born into a musical family in Buffalo, New York. He is a graduate of Ohio Wesleyan University, The Boston University School of Theology, and Union Theological Seminary, New York City. He is an ordained Methodist minister, who for most of his adult life was the full time Minister of Music at First United Methodist Church in Westfield, New Jersey.

A widely published composer of church music, he enters the Maurice River Press catalog with four works:

  • an arrangement of the African-American Spiritual Duh Blin' Man Stood on de Road an' Cried;
  • arrangements of two Shaker songs,
    • Come Dance and Sing Around the Ring (1838)
    • and Joyful Saints of God;
  • as well as his own setting of a Shaker text, Winter Song.

Mr. Dietterich now lives in retirement in Oak Bluffs, Massachusetts.
